Victory is mine
May. 17th, 2014 03:05 pmSo I'm the one who did not have permission from the lizard (nickname for my 10 year old daughter) to exalt because it was mean. I have now gotten around this by buying a few pretty new dragons and showing her how to use the offspring scurrying thingy and explaining that to make space for pretty baby dragons we have to get rid of the less pretty ones. :) The only problem now is that she craves (based on the auction house offerings she's attracted to) rather busy light blues, whereas I am partial to reds and not-secretly want a blackish boy imperial or spiral (?) with red-orange details, at which point I imagine it is easier just to save up for one rather than breeding for it. Still, I can tell lair space is rapidly going to be an issue. If I weren't away from home, I'd be grinding away.
Also, any tips or links to breeding guides appreciated. Is there stuff beyond the guides in the forum?

Date: 2014-05-17 09:29 pm (UTC)The other thing is, colors you think might be close to each other aren't necessarily. For instance, black and white are only a few steps apart on the color sequence used in the breeding. Until I figured this out, I wasted a lot of time trying to get black to breed green. It's damn hard.
The Scrying Workshop on Flight Rising can be really useful, but this site is still the champ, IMO:

Try plugging in the colors of a pair you want to breed, and take a look at the range of colors you could get. The larger the range, the more unpredictable your result in your hatchlings.
Note that you can, if you want to and have a cooperative friend, borrow a breeding partner for one of your dragons. You buy their dragon for 1 T, breed and hatch the babies, then sell the borrowed dragon back for 1 T, then do the same for whatever hatchling(s) you both agreed upon. Note that because the cooldown period for rarer breed is longer, asking to borrow a rare breed is a bigger deal than asking to borrow a plentiful.
Other things to know: plentiful breeds are dominant over less-plentiful breeds. Breed Cheris to Jedao, and you have a snowball's chance in hell of getting any coatl babies. Breed her to Ruo, and you *might* get a coatl in the nest. Same is true of the genes: tiger primary will likely win out over iridescent, and so on.
I could swear I've seen a discussion of the numbers for percentage chances when you crossbreed different genes, but I'm not finding it. :-(

Date: 2014-05-19 02:20 am (UTC)The funny thing is, I don't think that's the same link ... ! But it covers the same material. However, if it is the same link that certainly explains why I didn't find it on the FR forums. Thank you!

Date: 2014-05-19 02:33 am (UTC)Also, if Cheris would like to spend some quality with Gakhelet here,
you may well get your wish for a dark Imp boy with red/orange "trimmings." Try his dragon number, 2778163, and hers, 3215104, in Foresee Progeny. (Of course, you could also end up with a coal tiger striped dragon with magenta wings and lumpy beige gembond, but such is life.) If they do it at your place, they'll have purple eyes; if at mine, green eyes. You could keep any coal dragons you get (don't want 'em), and you ought to be able to sell them if you don't want them. I would appreciate a choice of any black or obsidian hatchlings. Of course, if you were intending to breed this putative boy dragon to Cheris, you wouldn't be able to, since she'd be his mama ...

Date: 2014-05-20 07:01 pm (UTC)After consultation with the lizard, we switched to the Light flight, so babies at our nest would have yellow eyes? Could they do it at our place, or do you have a strong pref for green eyes? Otherwise the terms sound good to me.
I bet the babies are coal tigers with magenta wings and beige gembonds, just for silly...

Date: 2014-05-21 01:14 am (UTC)Gakhelet (name means "ember" in Hebrew, IIRC) is one of my AH bargains. I get in moods where I just want to pore of lists of dragons for sale and see if I can get one that matches my criteria du jour. Until quite recently, I never paid more than about 20 KT for a dragon. I can message you when I see a Yoon-type dragon at a cheap price, if you'd like.
I'll send him over. I'm not trying for "extreme" Neon Wings (that's where you need a matching eye color for your identical secondary and tertiary colors), so I don't really care about the eyes.

Date: 2014-05-21 01:20 am (UTC)If you happen to see an affordable spiral or imperial with reddish body, yellowish belly, and blackish wings, drop me a line. :) I'm trying to convince the lizard that we will get better dragons (or better apparel, anyway) if we save up, but she wants to spend spend spend. So hard to be patient when you're ten, I bet!
I need to make a Flight Rising icon sometime...
